Number of tiger and wildlife species in Hugaung Tiger Reserve collected

Population of tiger and wildlife species dwelling in Hugaung Tiger Reserve and their habitats are being surveyed in cooperation with the Forest Department, said U Aung Kyaw from Wildlife Conservation Society (Myanmar Programme).

Hugaung Tiger Reserve and Khakaborazi National Park, under the guard of a forest officials, the police and WCS members, are being protected from hunting and cutting trees. Awareness campaigns concerning wildlife conservation activities will also be conducted for public participation in the drive, said U Aung Kyaw. A training will be conducted with foreign experts in a bid to improve capacity of WCS and Forest Department’s staff.
The trainees will receive skills for survey, patrolling and use of camera traps, GPS, compass, clinometers, range finders. They will also participate in oversea workshop and meetings.
The authorities will raise awareness about wildlife conservation in Hugaung Tiger Reserve and Khakaborazi National Park to attract people for activities for Community Based Natural Resource Management (CBNRM). –Myo Win Tun (Monywa)
