Mandalay registers high inflow of tourists in 2017

Tourist inflow into the Mandalay Region was higher in 2017 than 2016, according to Mandalay Region Hotels and Tourism Department.
The Mandalay Region hosted more than 483,780 tourists in 2017, while the region welcomed more than 385,000 tourists in 2016, mostly from China. More than 144,200 tourists visited Mandalay in 2017. The region also attracted tourists from Thailand, India, Singapore, Viet Nam, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom and America.
Mandalay has been seeing increasing tourist arrivals each year. It received more than 306,000 tourists in 2015.
The number of direct flights to Mandalay was also increased last year. Additionally, tourists visit Mandalay through the border gates in motorcycles or cars. Tourists appear to favour touring cultural zones such as the Bagan-Nyaung U cultural zone, Ava cultural site and Pyin Oo Lwin.
