Completion of Loikaw- Mae Hong Son road will boost tourism

The prospects for local trade and tourism sectors will likely improve upon the completion of the Loikaw- Mae Hong Son forever road, officials said.

The road is called forever road as it is the friendship road between the Myanmar and Thailand. Once it is completed, it will take only 4 hours to get from Loikaw to Mae Hong Son Province.

An official signing for construction has been taken place between the two countries.

“Four districts from the Myanmar side and four from Thailand will be part of the project, and a delegation from Thailand will visit Myanmar in June for construction of the road. In my opinion, this road is mainly for tourism,” said Dr. Kyi Lin, Chairman of the Taunggyi Hotel Zone.

After the road construction, Kayak State will be see greater prospects for tourism, according to travel industry officials. Kayah State is one of several areas in Maynmar being prepared this year to be more attractive to foreign tourists.

Among the tourists who visit Myanmar, Thai nationals make up the majority. Due to the opening of the border gates, visitors from other countries has also increased.
